Judd just sent me a link to The Surrogates. It looks like it could be good, solid, real Science Fiction. It’s supposedly been in production since the beginning of the year, so maybe we’ll see it soon?

Equating a movie to “Blade Runner” is pure hogwash, of course. That’s what Marketing calls any SF movie that’s not about blowing up the bad guy in a pit of space lava. But the premise is very strong, even without hyperbole. It reminds me of something else Judd told me about once.

I’m very excited to say that my games — and, indeed, all publications, should I ever get around to That Other Stuff — are now available from the Indie-RPGs.com Un-Store. This includes the never-before-sold-outside-of-Gen-Con Shock: Sheets, now bundled with Shock:. You can also get them separately! I thought they were going to be kind of a cute thing, but they were a surprisingly hot item at the con.

They’re pre-printed, double-sided Shock:Issue grids and Antag:Protag sheets. It makes it just that much faster to get down to playing. Plus, you can stick a couple in the back of the book and always be ready to play!

The Un-Store is going to be reaaally interesting. The wheels have just left the runway. But it’s gonna fly.

Governor Palin Supports Jews for Jesus [Oct. 15th, 2008|02:01 pm]

So, you know how Palin keeps talking about how they can’t let another Holocaust happen? It’s not out of respect for the humanity and distinction of the Jewish people. It’s just so we can die in the rapture.

Well, OK, that, and making the relentlessly Left-Wing, Progressive, pro-civilization and Democratic Jewish population of America waver in their support for the best Democratic Presidential candidate in my lifetime.

In August, just eight weeks ago, Governor Sarah Palin sat in her church, the Wasilla Bible Church, and listened to their honored guest, David Brickner, describe how the challenges Jews face in Israel is a result of their having rejected Jesus as their personal lord and savior. The talk was entitled, “The Jerusalem Dilemma.” That’s code for “The Jewish Question“.

If you’d like, you can download the audio file or read a PDF of the sermon.

If Jews have anything to fear from the upcoming election, it’s not that Barack Obama might be a Muslim (he’s not). It’s not that he’s black (that’s good). It’s that John McCain selected someone who believes that we should be converted en masse by being lied to. If you are, or know, Jews in Ohio, Florida, or any other swing state, make sure they know this. There’s been some ugly racism showing in polls of Jews, and it needs to be made clear which side the bread is buttered on.

Vote Barack “The Butter” Obama.

Hey, folks, if you have questions or want to point out errors in the Beowulf ashcan, please bring them over at the Beowulf errata thread in the Xenoglyph forum. I look forward to hearing back from all the enthusiastic folks who purchased it at Gen Con and before.

I’ve got a couple of copies left. If you want a copy before they’re gone, you should order one quick!

Order Beowulf (sold out.)

So Tired… [Aug. 18th, 2008|06:17 pm]

Thank you, all you excellent folks at Gen Con for giving me such a good time in Indianapolis this week. I’m totally exhausted and sitting in the genuinely impressive Indianapolis public library, chilling out while I wait to head out to the airport.

On the way, I intend to eat at Major Restaurant, an East African restaurant where I ate with Malcolm Craig, Vincent Baker, and Jim Pinto the other day. It’s right by the airport and man, it’s wonderful. The food here in Indy is so grim, getting something spicy and made on purpose is really great.

I’ll be posting stories over the next few days, most likely. But I want to say thanks a bunch to the Playcollectivists, thanks to Anna, Graham, and Danielle for finally playing with me — my first time with any of you, and all at once!

I had a great time talking with people about building games, too. I look forward to seeing what Will Schoonover does with Out of the Grey and I’m really excited to read what Clyde L. Rhoer has done with Silence Keeps Me a Victim.

The Playcollective. Play, Together.

Emily Care Boss (Breaking the Ice), Tony Lower-Basch (Capes), Vincent Baker (Dogs in the Vineyard), Judd Karlman (Dictionary of Mu), Malcolm Craig (Cold City), and I (Underpants for Rude-Looking Vegetables) have joined together to form some sort of Voltron where we make a giant game designer who combines only at the last moment to defeat the space monster when we could have joined at the beginning and won more easily. Dig the Playcollective site! We’ll be updating frequently.

Monkeys Fucking

Every so often, I go check my web user logs. It tells me when someone’s written an article about one of my games, or when someone’s asking around RPGnet or the Forge with rules questions, “Sell Me” threads, or whatever.

It also tells me what Google searches people are doing. I get a lot for “glyphpress joshua” and “under the bed glyphpress” and “science fiction game joshua”. These are obviously people looking for my games.

But then, then there are the other searches. The accidental hits. And you’d think they’d be all over the place. But they’re not. They fall into two categories.

The first category is simple enough: people looking for a variety of things that contain the word “monkey”. Fair enough. Lots of “Monkey See, Monkey Do”. The occasional “Monkey Wedding”.

The second category — really, a subcategory — is Monkey Fucking. I don’t even see where I’m linked on that page. But every day someone clicks through from MSN doing a search for Monkey Fucking. Sometimes, several people. And they’re different people. Ohio, South Africa, Germany…

Now, what’s not strange to me is that people are looking for pictures of monkey fucking. It is, by virtue of its “perfect storm” of elements, the funniest possible thing to see.

What boggles me is that they click through. They set off in search of pictures of copulating tailed primates and wind up here at this humble weblog. It’s a marvel.

We truly live in the future.

The place to find shocking things under the bed. [Jun. 16th, 2006|05:00 pm]

I’m finally getting this weblog running. It’s a weblog about design for the most part, and because many of my friends will care, it is sometimes about my life.

The design I’m talking about is largely game design, but also graphic design and sometimes probably even industrial design. Everything you see that someone made? Someone designed that. Every brick, every book cover, car handle. Every word was placed by someone in that book, every rule was considered. That’s what I want to talk about. Please feel free to comment. If you’ve never commented here before, I’ll have to OK you to make sure you’re not spam.
